Shirley Valentine is celebrating it's record run of 650 shows

"Shirley Valentine slaví rekordních 650 repríz"

Twenty years after the first introduction of the play Shirley Valentine at Liverpool, Willy Russell's one-woman show first appeared in 2008 on the stage of Rokoko Theatre. During ten years the play Shirley Valentine has become the most successful production at the ABC Theatre and on Saturday April 28th the 650th performance was held.

Production team of the director Zdeněk Kaloč visited during the last decade all regions of the Czech Republic. Shirley Valentine was performed in Brno, in Ostrava and in Karlovy Vary. In Prague Shirley Valentine played 345 times.

"For every performance of Shirley Valentine, I'm going to live through my life and the lives of people who are looking at me in the theatre. The magic of this play is in the fact that each woman has her own life in her head. They are watching me and after a while they can live their lives through Shirley Valentine. And last but not least, they follow the brilliant ideas of Willy Russell,“ thought Simona, who even after so many years needs to prepare for each performance mentally as well as physically.

" The actress Simon Stašová appeared before the audience as Shirley Valentine on Saturday for the 650th time! The festive performance which took place at ABC Theatre, was attended by the author, British playwright Willy Russell. He met the actress on Friday at the press conference, which was held in the cafe of ABC Theatre."

Willy's one-woman show about a woman of a middle age, who has lost herself  and now she tries to return, for the first time appeared in 2008 on the stage of Rokoko Theatre and because of the great success it was moved toABC Theatre. Production team of the director Zdeněk Kaloč visited during the last decade all regions of the Czech Republic and the performances are still hopelessly sold out. The actress sees this success primarily in the fact that the theatre-goers can identify themselves with the part of Shirley Valentine.

"The day I play Shirley I have to have a good sleep on and I can't take any other job. And before I go to the scene, I realize that I have two healthy children, I still have both my parents despite their age and this is the most important thing for me. And now I'm just going to perform a play. Therefore I can relax and I'm not going to prove to anyone that I'm a good actress, I'm going just to chat with those in the auditorium“ said the actress.

Her phenomenal performance saw for example Karel Gott with his family, Jaromír Hanzlík or her mother Jirina Bohdalova.. "She saw me at the dress rehearsal and maybe she'll come tomorrow, if she's OK. I'd like her to be here to support me, no to have such a stage fright in front of Mr.Russell. She told me: 'Don't calculate on that Simono but maybe I'll come.'', told us our Czech Shirley Valentine at the press conference and continue to talk about her mother and her appreciation of Simona's dramatic art.
