What's On...

Willy Russell is one of the most successful playwrights of his generation. His plays have been performed in countries across the globe and have won countless appreciation and creative awards as well as academic honours for their author. Since their premiers plays such as EDUCATING RITA, STAGS AND HENS, SHIRLEY VALENTINE, BREEZEBLOCK PARK and OUR DAY OUT have been in constant production throughout the world.

This autumn, for the first time, the work of painter Willy Russell will be shown in a London gallery. Widely known as a playwright, Willy Russell has never limited himself to this profession, he is also an accomplished musician, songwriter and novelist.
The exhibition runs from 7th November - 18th November.

Whether you intend writing songs aimed at the charts, to be sung at an open mic night, or to feature in a full scale musical, this course has something for you. As this is a practical course there will be an element of very basic performance. Suitable for both wordsmiths and tunesmiths the course will offer the opportunity to work individually, collaboratively and collectively in the creation of new songs and lyrics on a daily basis.
If you do play an instrument and it’s practicable to bring it along then please do so.

North West Tonight. You can watch the feature, in which Willy is interviewed, HERE. The slot starts about 14 minutes into the programme.

ArtsnightBBC2's ARTSNIGHT programme on Saturday 15th October, showcased a profile of Willy Russell by Julie Walters. Julie Walters, who played Rita in the original stage play of Educating Rita (1979), and the award winning film released in 1983, travelled to Liverpool to interview Willy Russell.
